May 18, 2016 (Wednesday) 9:00am - 6:00pm
Hours completed: 9
Accumulated onsite hours: 17
Day two involved more outreach meeting to local schools, this week is the big ramp up before summer reading so the librarians are making sure to get out to as many classrooms as they can to promote reading during summer vacation.
My onsite supervisor and I sat down and planned in better detail the four main areas that I will be working on this summer. For programming, I will be taking the lead on the Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds program. To work on collection development, I will be doing some weeding of the picture book collection. For reader's advisory, I will be creating new booklists to supplement the lists that the library already has for both YA and for picture books. And lastly, outreach is an ongoing part of my experience with the library, starting with the outreach events that I've attending and will continue with the different events that the library hosts throughout the summer.
In addition to this one-on-one meeting, I also had the opportunity to sit in on the youth services planning meeting for summer reading. The meeting was for the youth services department to touch base before summer reading kicks off and for them to all be on the same page about various issues. The meeting also provided an opportunity for a member of the IT staff to show the YS staff how checking out books will work when staff are out and about town with the new book bike.
Aside from the different meetings and programs I attended today, I also spent time creating lesson plans and scheduling for the Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds program. The program is coming along nicely and should be almost completely finished by the end of the week.
