May 17, 2016 (Thursday) 9:00am - 5:00pm
Hours completed: 8
Accumulated onsite hours: 8
My first day onsite was a bit of a blur. Much of the day was spent meeting different library staff members and getting acquainted with my tasks for the summer. The day began with an outreach meeting to a local elementary school to promote summer reading. I attending several different outreach programs on this day, for multiple grade levels at multiple different schools. Each program lasted around 20 to 30 minutes and covered how summer reading worked and provided time to answer the student's questions.
In addition to attending these outreach events, I also attending a summer reading meeting that covered the last bits and pieces that needed to come together for the library's summer reading program that is starting next week. There is a lot of excitement about the book bike that will (hopefully) be at the library starting next week. There are a lot of moving parts for summer reading, and all parts of the library are involved to pull off an amazing program for the entire community.
We also began to set out the different projects that I will be working on this summer to meet my different CE objectives. The piece that I began the most work on today was the Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies program that will be on Monday afternoons for students who are in 4th grade and older. The program will promote fitness, healthy eating, and fun challenges for the brain.
