Daily Log: Day Three

May 19, 2016 (Thursday) 9:00am - 4:00pm
Hours completed: 7
Accumulated onsite hours: 24

Today started off with an awesome trip to a local preschool. The school was a short walk from the library and the sun was finally shining. Victoria held storytime for two different classes and while I was not directly assisting her, I was a very active participant. Shadowing her storytimes was not only fun, but helpful to see how she handled certain situations and to get ideas about best practices for my own future storytimes. One specific note that I want to remember is that for one of the books, she printed out the words on one of the pages and taped the sheet to the back of the book. This way, she was about to read the words quickly and expressively without worrying about angling the book the right way or missing some of the words because of a strange font. This is an awesome idea and I plan to borrow it in the future. I'm looking forward to attending more events with the different library staff to see how they do their storytimes and to be able to get even more amazing ideas.

The rest of the day was spent making lesson plans for the Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds program. The budget is mostly set, the schedule is written, and the first three handouts are finished. We discussed including evaluations that would come from the children as well. The plan is to be able to provide opportunities for the children to evaluate each specific program as well as the entire summer's worth.
